Implantation failure and infertility Dr Uzma Fatema It is a widely-held view that Anovulation is the only problem causing infertility in women. But there are other reasons too that stop a woman from becoming a mother. Let’s first know what is Anovulation? It is an ovary’s inability to release an ovum for three or more months in a row. In a healthy woman, an ovary secrets an ovum every 25-28 days depending on her cycles. Pregnancy occurs when a sperm, a male gamet, unites with an ovum, a female gamete. If one of these two is not present then pregnancy does not happen. Implantation failure Not many know implantation failure is another big reason for infertility in women. But before knowing implantation failure we must know what is implantation process? Definition of implantation Implantation is the process of attachment of a fertilized egg i.e. zygote with endometrial wall of uterus. The sperm enters the ovum and then after a few days the new cell or zygote rolls down through...

Implantation failure Whenever we talk about female infertility we think ovulation is the only factor for infertility but along with this implantation failure also contributes to infertility in many cases. But before knowing implantation failure we must know what the implantation process is? Definition of implantation. Implantation is the process of attachment of fertilized egg i.e. zygote with an endometrial wall Uterus. When a zygote form (by the meeting of an ovum with sperm) it must get attach to the uterine wall to get nourished and can grow into a fetus. It is a slow and crucial process that can take 3-5days to get completely embedded into the uterine endometrium. As it starts to dig the endometrial lining there is the secretion of HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin hormone) from the endometrial tissues which are in touch with the embryo. HCG hormone will protect new in growing tissue of zygote from the immune response of the mother body. HCG, increase the acceptance o...

You got a tubal knot? Don't worry you can still become a mother  Dr Uzma Fatema Image by therapractice from Pixabay When a couple decides to undergo a procedure like tubal ligation it means they do not want a child in their life any more. Tubal ligation is tying of fallopian tubes to prevent ovum from travelling during menstrual cycle. In some cases the tubes are cut. This prevents occurrence of a pregnancy permanently. Remember a tubal ligation does not stop you from having your menses. You just can’t conceive a baby. In future the very same couple may face an unexpected eventuality like losing their kid in an accident or due to a life taking disease. In some cases, the child goes missing. This sudden loss of a kid causes parents particularly the mother to think about having another baby. They think having another baby will compensate for the loss. Can you become a mother again? In today’s times, technology has reached at such an advanced level that doctors can use them ...

Tap ovulation if you want to get pregnant Dr Uzma Fatema  Image by Thomas Breher from Pixabay Ovulation is an important part of a female's entire reproductive life.  In a healthy, regularly menstruating woman having a cycle of 28 to 30 days, ovulation plays a crucial role in helping them get pregnant. Ovulation occurs on every 14th day of menstrual cycle or it is better to say it occurs 14 days ahead of the expected period date (bleeding). You have only 24 hrs In a woman's body, an ovum can survive only for 48 hours after its release from ovary out of which it remains viable only for 24 hours. This means the sperm can fertilise it only in this time period. and after that the ovum can't be fertilised.  This is the most suitable time for fertilisation if the sperm wants to meet with it in the fallopian tube.  How to detect ovulation? Now a question will rise in your mind that is it possible for you to detect an exact timing for ovulation? Or how you will come to know...
